John Crist’s comedy skit features a couple fighting over church custody and it is truly an eye opener.
The church is the body of Christ and we are all like organs that must work together. People often start out wanting to serve God but as the pews fill up pride begins to take over and they start obsessing over the building.
Their focus shifts from God to “me” and their mission becomes just a statement on a banner or a tagline under a name plate. In this thoughtful John Crist skit, a couple fights over church ownership and it points to what is happening in many churches today.
The video shows the couple in a heated legal battle over their rights to the congregation. They argue about who has been there longer and who does more work for the ministry.
They even attack each other’s personal flaws and spiritual maturity to prove who deserves custody of the church.
This skit speaks volumes about the heartbreaking reality of some churches today. We have to remember that the church belongs to Him and that we need to strive to protect its sanctity.
When we allow bitterness and separation, it destroys our witness and affects the entire congregation.
We must pray for peace and unity in our churches and ask God to guard our hearts from pride. “For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ.” 1 Corinthians 12:12
