Locusts which can devour entire have recently plagued Africa and are now travelling eastwards towards the Middle East and China.

They can easily devour entire fields of crops and are a “looming catastrophe” to local infrastructure by the United Nations.

Indiana-based preacher and online evangelist, Paul Begley, believes that Biblical prophecies are unfolding before our very eyes. He often preaches online from West Lafayette, and recently said this about the locusts, “Apocalyptic locusts. This is a biblical plague, this is a biblical sign of the last days – no question.”

He added, “These are locusts on a biblical scale. It’s catastrophic, it’s cataclysmic, it’s apocalyptic and it’s happening right now.”

“We’ve been talking about it for a while but guys, now it has turned the skies black, which takes us to two places in the Bible.”

“You’ve got to go to Exodus Chapter 10 and the plagues of Egypt, and you’ve got to go to Revelation 9 and the smoke and the locusts that come out of the bottomless pit.”

The Bible records that in Exodus 10, God sends a devastating plague of insects upon Egypt to punish the Pharaoh for enslaving the Jewish people. “This is what the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, says: ‘How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me? Let my people go, so that they may worship me. If you refuse to let them go, I will bring locusts into your country tomorrow.”

“They will cover the face of the ground so that it cannot be seen. They will devour what little you have left after the hail, including every tree that is growing in your fields.

“They will fill your houses and those of all your officials and all the Egyptians – something neither your parents nor your ancestors have ever seen from the day they settled in this land till now’.”

Then in Revelation 9, the last book of the Bible talks about a swarm of locusts that “looked like horses prepared for battle.”

The scripture reads: “The fifth angel sounded his trumpet, and I saw a star that had fallen from the sky to the earth. The star was given the key to the shaft of the Abyss.

“When he opened the Abyss, smoke rose from it like the smoke from a gigantic furnace. The sun and sky were darkened by the smoke from the Abyss.

“And out of the smoke locusts came down on the earth and were given power like that of scorpions of the earth.”

Pastor Begley believes that the current situation around the world, mirrors the passages in the Bible. The locusts also called Schistocerca gregaria, are know for their insatiable appetite, quick reproduction and ability to travel long distances.

But there is nothing biblical about the situation unfolding in the Middle East and such swarms have been affecting these parts of the world long before the Bible was written.

Keith Cressman, of UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), said: “It’s a pest that has been around for eons and eons of time. “It has so many different survival mechanisms to just survive in some of the harshest areas and most remote parts of this planet. But it has this fabulous capacity to take advantage of good conditions.”

These are not the locusts of Rev. 9 as those locusts are to sting and torment the unsaved for five months and their appearance is demonic because they come out of Hell. They do not touch the vegetation either. Only the unsaved people. So this plague today is not an end time event as such, however, it could be something to try and bring the unsaved to Christ Jesus. I believe we are getting near the end. There are signs everywhere.

Verse of the Day

He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem. Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. — Isaiah 53:3-4 (NIV)
