A grandmother’s desperate plea on social media moved thousands of strangers to help her three-and-a-half-year-old grandson find his lost stuffed monkey.
We have all lost something we loved. But for a child, losing a beloved toy is not just losing a thing. It is losing a friend. And that is exactly what little Artie lost.
Artie and his stuffed monkey were inseparable. They went on walks together. They helped clean the house together. That monkey was not just a toy. His grandmother called it “the most precious thing.”
So when it disappeared at Cleveland Hopkins Airport back in January, the family did not just let it go. Grandma filed what she lovingly called a “Missing Monkey Report” with the Enterprise team at the airport.
Staff pulled security footage and watched it carefully. They saw Artie walk in with the monkey in his arms. Then he walked out of shot. When he came back into frame, the monkey was gone. Just like that.
Enterprise called the family a week later with an update. Someone had picked the monkey up off the floor. But they could not identify who that person was. A dead end.
So grandma turned to the newspaper and social media, hoping someone out there would help.
Thousands of people responded. One woman found a similar stuffed monkey, bought it with her own money, and mailed it to the family. “It was just amazing,” grandma said.
An elderly man called in just to encourage her. “I’m rooting for the little guy,” he told her.
And grandma? She is still holding out hope for the original. “I’m not saying monkey is gone, but living a happy life,” she said. That made us smile.
God uses the strangest, most ordinary moments to show us that people still care. A lost stuffed monkey brought out kindness in thousands of strangers. That is not nothing. That is something worth noticing.
