A serious accident left in 2013 left Luke Benjamin Bernard at the jaws of death. After suffering a traumatic brain injury, blood clots in the brain, craniotomy he has managed to make a miraculous recovery.
“The Pure Flix Podcast” recorded his harrowing journey to recovery by starring him in the movie, “The Favorite,” which is streaming now on Pure Flix.
No chance of survival
Speaking of his initial condition, “Medically, you have almost no chance of survival,” he added, “It would be a miracle if you lived in a vegetative state — a miracle.” Luke was said to be in a condition which in medical terms is known as the Glasgow Coma Scale of 3 with dilated and fixed pupils.
“The doctor … told [my family], ‘I can’t tell you what’s going to happen with him. You just need to get here right away,’” Bernard said. Although chances were slim of him making a recovery, his family did not give up and instead depended on faith and prayer.
Fighting the battle with faith
“Basically, they did the best thing they could for me … and the only thing they could have done was – they prayed,” he said. “They read scriptures, they sang praise … at my bedside again and again and again.” His parents believed that God would heal their son, and they battled all negativity with faith.
“[My dad’s] mindset was, ‘This is a fight — I’m in a fight right now for my son’s life and Satan’s trying to take my son and I’m not going to let it happen,’” he said, noting that their prayers weren’t just for survival but for “complete healing.”
God finally intervened and granted them their heart’s desire and healed their son completely. “It’s just remarkable with God’s grace and mercy, with his healing power over me,” he said.

Restoration of his movie career
Not only that, but God has restored Bernard’s career as well, he was an actor prior to his accident, and after his miraculous healing, he wrote and performed in “The Favorite,” which is a movie about 2 rival brothers who face a tragic situation similar to what occurred with Bernard in real-life.

Luke Bernard got the idea and plot line for the movie while he was recovering from his accident. He says, “One night I fell into this deep sleep and I had this very vivid dream … a dream that you feel like you’re really there,” he recalled.
Bernard spoke of the dream where he saw 2 brothers who had a car accident, and one of them had the same injuries, recovery, and miraculous healing he had received. It was so stirring for Bernard that he began writing everything that he saw in the dream and it became the script for the movie he is acting in today.
