An 89-year-old retired police officer credits a neighbor’s rescue dog named Rosa for saving his life after he slipped and fell in freezing February temperatures.

McKenna had been a police officer for over 30 years. He’s spent his whole life helping other people. But that cold February afternoon, he went outside to move his snowblower and slipped. He cut his arm, hurt his knee, and couldn’t get up. He had a helpline button on him but forgot all about it.
“It was in my pocket and I forgot completely about it because I had a cut on this arm,” he said. So he did the only thing left. He started yelling.
Rosa heard him. She ran to the front door and barked, which her owner said was unusual. “She barked, which was unusual. I mean, there was nobody there.” But she trusted her dog, put on her boots, grabbed the leash, and went outside.
That’s when she heard McKenna calling for help. She and another neighbor tried to get him up but had to call an ambulance.
McKenna got stitches on his knee but he was okay. And the next day, he brought Rosa cookies.
“She’s a lifesaver, I think,” he said with a laugh. Rosa’s owner said she was totally amazed and very proud of what her dog did.
This one warms my heart. We never know how God will show up when we need Him most. Let’s thank Him today for the unlikely heroes He puts right next door.
