A baby girl was found alive in a dumpster in North Austin after neighbors heard her crying and rushed to help.
Perry Lewis was getting ready to leave his apartment complex when his neighbor heard something unusual. “He said it might be a baby,” Lewis remembered. “So we ran over there.”
What they found broke their hearts. A newborn baby girl lay in the trash, covered in blood and dirt. Her umbilical cord was still attached. She had been placed upside down in the dumpster.
Lerrssy Frausto grabbed the baby and started doing chest compressions. “Her other eye just started rolling to the back of her head, and I’m just like, ‘Please stay with me,'” Frausto said.
Frausto talked to the baby while helping her. “I think when she started hearing it was a mother’s voice or a female’s voice, she knew she was safe at that point.”
The baby responded to Frausto’s voice and touch. “She was just holding on for us,” Frausto explained. “She knew she still had potential in this life.”
Paramedics took the baby to Dell Children’s Hospital. She is doing well and doctors expect her to be discharged soon.
Frausto has named the baby “Miracle Angel.” “She’s a miracle from God and an angel from the skies,” she said. “She was crying in the trash can. That’s how they heard her cry, so she saved herself before anybody could save her.”
The baby will go into foster care once she leaves the hospital. Frausto hopes the baby finds “someone that loves her, that truly loves her, truly wants to be a parent to her.”
This story shows us that God protects the most vulnerable among us. He used caring neighbors to save a precious life that day. Please pray for this little girl as she begins her journey to find a loving home.
