Oil Rig Workers Rescue Exhausted Dog Found Swimming 135 Miles from Shore

A heartwarming story coming from an unlikely place- an oil rig part of Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production, is breaking the internet.

Located 135 miles off the coast right in the middle of the Gulf of Thailand, a worker spotted a dog in the water on April 12, who was so exhausted that it couldn’t even bark at him.

It might have fallen off of a fishing trawler there, but the kind crew decided to help bring him out, and dropped a rope down the rig’s superstructure to bring the dog out.

Khon Vitisak, one of the crew said, “We found [him] trying to swim toward our rig, which is about 135 miles from the shore. Thankfully, the sea was quite still because the wind was calm. We just saw [his] small head. But if the ripples were bigger, I think we probably wouldn’t have noticed [him] at all.”

He added, “When we first took [him] onboard, [he] was depressed and tired from being in the water for a long time. [He] had lost [his] body water. When he gave [him] water and minerals, [his] symptoms improved.”

The rig workers then fed him and gave him water and also built a cage for him, welding it out of bits of metal. They kept him for 48 hours on the rig, and after recuperating, they took the dog back to south Thailand.

One of the rescuers Vitisak even came forward to adopt him if no one else came forward.

Verse of the Day

“[Glory in the Highest] Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”

Luke 2:8-11
