Some songs stick with us forever, especially the old Christian hymns that we learn from our grandparents or parents or those songs we learned in our Sunday schools.

These songs carry a legacy of faith that shaped generations and still continue to inspire many.

Here two brothers give us a throwback performance of a timeless classic that connects us to believers who came before us.

‘Old Time Religion’ originated as a spiritual song in African American churches around 1873.

Around 1888, Charles D. Tillman first heard this local Negro spiritual at a tent revival near Lexington, South Carolina. He loved it so much that he wrote down the words and music.

The song talks about how faith was good enough for Bible heroes like Paul and Silas. It says the same faith that helped them can help us too. The main words go “Give me that old time religion, it’s good enough for me.”

The Haneline Twins sat in a plain room with their guitars. They did not need fancy lights or big stages. Their faces showed real happiness as they played.

You could see they meant every word they sang. The brothers made the old hymn feel fresh and alive again.

The same faith that carried believers through generations still works for us. When we feel lost or scared, we can remember that this old time religion has never failed anyone who trusted in it.
