Celebrity gossip blogger Perez Hilton shares powerful testimony of his life-changing encounter with God during his 21-day hospitalization following a serious health crisis.
Sometimes God just uses a trial to make our faith actually bold. Maybe it’s a health crisis that comes out of nowhere or a relationship that just falls apart.
When you’re right in the thick of it, the first thing you want to ask is why this is happening to you, and honestly, it’s almost impossible to see any kind of “purpose” when you’re just hurting.
But then you look back much later and realize how God was shaping your faith during that whole ordeal. You might go into that fire feeling physically weak or just totally broken but you come out of it with a spirit that’s actually unshakeable.
Hilton shared everything in a 25-minute Instagram video he called “the most important video that I’ve ever shared.” It started small. He had the flu for a week and kept taking his medication on an empty stomach, which he wasn’t supposed to do.
That one mistake snowballed fast. He developed an ulcer, then a perforation, then sepsis. By the next morning he couldn’t even walk. An ambulance had to take him in.
What followed was brutal. Doctors ran X-rays, CT scans, and ultrasounds trying to find where the perforation was. Five days passed before they could perform laparoscopic surgery.
Fluid had collected around his lungs and had to be drained. Then one night his heart spiraled out of control and a rapid response team rushed in to put him on heart medication.
A new infection developed on top of everything else. “The sepsis just kept working and my body kept falling apart,” he said.
Two weeks of that. Then a third week just trying to get well enough to go home. He’s a single dad of three. Of course he wanted to go home.
But here is where the story takes a turn that nobody expected, least of all Perez Hilton himself.

“One of the most special things about this experience is that God presented Himself to me,” he said, visibly emotional, crying through his words.
“It was not a feeling. God presented himself to me and then did something that I could only call miraculous. And I was very lucid. It was real and this has been life-changing.”
He grew up Catholic. Baptized. First communion. Confirmed. Seven years at a Jesuit school. But he never believed. “I was never a believer until now,” he said plainly.
Now he wants to take his kids to church every Sunday. He even mentioned possibly enrolling them in Catholic school.
We pray for Perez that this encounter be the first step in his spiritual journey. May he continue to experience the love and grace of Jesus in every area of his life.
