Two Springville Police officers got an unusual call and found a coyote stuck in a crepe myrtle tree. The animal’s paw was trapped, and the officers worked together to set it free.
Most of the time we hear about police officers catching criminals or giving out speeding tickets. Sometimes we see them rescuing people from dangerous situations.
But this story shows us something different. These officers took time to help an animal that couldn’t ask for help or say thank you.
The officers had quite a job ahead of them. The coyote’s right front paw was stuck tight in the tree, and the tree had started splitting down the middle.
Nobody knows how the poor thing got into such a mess. Maybe it tried to climb up and slid back down, getting caught on the way.
What touched me most was how calm the coyote stayed during the whole thing. The animal seemed to understand these people were trying to help. It didn’t bite or scratch at the officers, even though it must have been scared and hurting.
The two minute video shows the officers being so careful and patient. They knew one wrong move could hurt the animal or themselves.
They worked slowly and gently, taking their time to do it right. After much effort, they finally freed the wild animal from its trap.
The moment the coyote was loose, it ran straight into the woods nearby. You could almost feel its relief as it headed home to safety. The officers watched it go, probably feeling pretty good about their rescue.
When we see any living thing suffering, we can choose to help. These officers didn’t have to spend time saving a wild animal, but they did it anyway. They showed the same kindness God shows us every day.
We can do the same when we meet creatures who need our help.
