A comedian spotted a prison warning sign while traveling through northern Indiana and turned his experience into a funny routine that makes people think about serious safety issues.
Comedian Aaron Weber was driving through northern Indiana a few weeks ago. He was not performing comedy that day. He was just looking around and enjoying the sights. Then he saw something that caught his attention.
“I drove past a prison there. I wasn’t going to prison. I didn’t know there was a prison around until I saw a sign. This is a real sign out of nowhere. Medium security prison nearby. Do not pick up hitchhikers.” Weber said in his YouTube video.
Weber found the sign funny but also worrying. He wondered what it really meant. His comedy routine pointed out some strange things about the message.
“That sign does feel like they’re saying, ‘Look, they’re getting out.’ All right. And it’s happened a bunch. It’s happening right now. We don’t know what to do. We’re only a medium security prison. Why don’t we put it on y’all a little bit? Stop picking them up every time,” Weber joked.
He also noticed the sign gave no other help. There was no phone number to call. There were no other instructions about what to do if someone saw a hitchhiker near the prison.
Weber’s comedy helps us think about safety in our communities. His observations remind us to stay alert while we travel. We can laugh at strange signs and still take safety seriously.
