Singer-songwriter Steven Wood wrote a moving original song called ‘Sign Of The Cross’ that tells his story of finding God’s grace.
Wood says ‘Sign Of The Cross’ was the first song he wrote for his new album. He believes many people can relate to its message.
The song starts with honest words about his past that many of us can relate to: “if you would have known me way back then and how I used to live it would be easy to see it was all about me i had nothing to give.”
We’ve been there too, haven’t we? Those times when we lived for ourselves and had little to offer others.
The songwriter describes the day everything changed for him. He sings: “I remember the day I found grace and a hole in my heart was filled now I’m a brand new man because of nail pierced hands hanging on Calvar’s heels.”
The main message comes through in the chorus where Wood declares: “i’m just a sign of the cross not perfect just redeemed you see I once was lost and God’s blood was shed for me nothing I’ve done it’s all God’s son hanging on Calvar’s tree jesus paid my cost.”
The song reminds us that being redeemed means more than being perfect. It means Jesus paid the price we couldn’t pay.
