A third grade teacher invited all 14 of her students to be part of her wedding day in the sweetest way.
Most of us have that one teacher who made our school days special. They walked with us through our tough times and patted our shoulders when we needed encouragement. They made us feel like they were one of us.
Miss Love was clearly that kind of teacher for her students.
Miss Love at Mary Morgan Elementary started her school year engaged and planning her wedding. But as the year went on, her students kept asking the same question.
“They had been asking all year and be like ‘Miss Love can we be in your wedding,’ and I’d be like oh I don’t know,” she shared.
Near the end of the school year, Miss Love had one last assignment for her class. She handed out pieces of paper with a special code. “So she gave us a piece of paper and it was kind of like code and then we would write down the words,” one student explained.
When they cracked the code, the message made their eyes light up. Miss Love was inviting them all to be flower girls and ring bearers at her wedding.
The school administration said yes to the idea. Miss Love knew she had found something special with this group of kids.
“It was a mix of perfect timing and then also this group of kids was just so compassionate, had a lot of empathy, there’s a lot of comradery amongst the kids and it really made for a good year for me. So I just had to. I couldn’t imagine the day without them.”
On her wedding day, all 14 third graders showed up dressed in tiny bow ties and pastel dresses. They walked down the aisle like they had been doing it their whole lives.
The students had also helped make centerpieces for the wedding and wrote marriage advice for all the guests to read.
One student said it best: “Because it was my teacher it was very special, kind of once in a lifetime to be honest. It was super fun, super exciting.”
For Miss Love, now Mrs. Love, seeing her students was the most emotional part of her day. “I will say I did not cry the whole entire day but seeing them was the moment I felt like I was probably going to cry the most. Seeing them dressed up and the fact they all just showed up for me… it was so sweet.”
