God places us in the right spot at the right time to help His creatures. We never know when He might use us to make a difference in someone’s life, even a small beaver’s life.

Connor Belanger was floating down the Cowichan River with his family in August. He heard squeaking sounds coming from the water. When he looked closer, he saw a small, fluffy animal fighting the rapids.

The baby beaver was in trouble. Connor reached out his arm. The scared little animal climbed right up and into his arms.

“It jumped into his arms, did you see that,” his mom Liz said as she filmed the rescue on her phone.

Connor held the tiny beaver close. His family rushed to get help. They drove straight to the North Island Wildlife Recovery Centre.

The staff there said the beaver was only one week old. She should have been safe in a dam with her mother.

Instead, she was skinny and weak. “His chances of survival would be very slim at that age,” said one staff member.

The drought had made the river water very low. This exposed the dam exits and swept the baby away from her nest.

The rescue team named her Timber. She’s getting stronger every day. She eats well and practices swimming in a small tub. The staff love watching her.

“They sound like human babies and they even smell like a human baby,” said Joanna Smith, who cares for the animals.

Timber will stay at the center for about a year. When she’s big enough, they’ll bring her back to the same spot on the river where Connor found her.

Connor didn’t think twice about helping. His kind heart made all the difference for one small creature who needed help.

Verse of the Day

“Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.”
