On his official YouTube channel, he says, “I was commissioned to arrange and record this piece for the memorial of somebody close to a friend of mine. It was the middle of the 2020 lockdown so in lieu of getting a real choir to sing it, I decided to experiment with a video technique I’d not really tried before!”

The beautiful music video was recorded at St. Mary’s Church, Saffron Walden, and is a visual and audio delight.

The words of “The Lord Bless You and Keep You” are from Numbers 6:24–26 (RSV), also known as the priestly blessing and the Aaronic benediction.

Martin Bucer and John Calvin introduced the Aaronic blessing to Reformed worship after the example set by Martin Luther’s Formula Missae (“Formula of the Mass,” 1523).

It was composed in 1900 by Peter Christian Lutkin, and the music is more of an anthem than a hymn, and was called a “Farewell Anthem with Sevenfold Amen.”

Verse of the Day

“[God the Sovereign Savior] To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David the servant of the Lord, who spoke to the Lord the words of this song on the day that the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. And he said: I will love You, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”

Psalm 18:1-2
