A two-year-old boy survived a terrifying fall from the 15th floor of an apartment building in Maryland, in what doctors and witnesses are calling nothing short of a miracle.
As parents and grandparents, we do our best to keep our children safe every day. We childproof our homes, hold their hands when crossing streets, and teach them about dangers.
But above all, God watches over our little ones with care beyond our human capabilities, as this remarkable survival story clearly shows.
The Terrifying Fall
The incident happened around 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, at The Enclave apartment complex in Silver Spring, Maryland.
Montgomery County police and paramedics rushed to the scene after receiving reports that a toddler had fallen from a balcony on the 15th floor of the 20-story building.
When first responders arrived, they found the scene chaotic.
The toddler had fallen approximately 15 stories and landed in small bushes below the building.
These bushes, standing only about three feet tall, contained strong branches up to an inch thick.
These seemingly insignificant plants had somehow broken the toddler’s fall from approximately 150 feet.
Miraculous Survival
The two-year-old suffered a broken leg and multiple internal injuries but nothing life-threatening. Medical staff at the hospital confirmed that the child is expected to recover.
Emergency responders and witnesses alike called it miraculous.
Fire and Rescue Service Assistant Chief David Pazos called the child’s survival “miraculous.”
“I want to stress first that this is really miraculous,” said Dr. Katie Donnelly, a pediatric emergency medicine doctor with Children’s National Hospital. “Falls from this height are usually pretty devastating.”
Dr. Joshua Abzug, a pediatric orthopedist at the University of Maryland Medical Center said, “I think that it was by the grace of God that this child lived.”
The Investigation
Police confirmed that adults were home at the time of the fall. The balcony had protective glass instead of a railing.
Investigators are still looking into how the child managed to get over this barrier.
No criminal charges have been filed against the parents or guardians.
Community Response
Neighbors expressed shock at the boy’s survival. Mohamed Koroma, who lives on the same floor, told FOX 5 news: “That’s a miracle. A miracle man. It’s really sad.”
A local mother told WJLA-TV, “Imagine 15 stories, coming down with such speed, and to survive is incredible.”
Many people who heard the news attributed the child’s survival to divine intervention. Katie Griffin, who works as a caretaker on the first floor of the apartment building, firmly stated, “It had to be Jesus.”
God’s Protection
We can clearly see the hand of God and His incredible plan in this terrifying incident. Those small bushes weren’t placed there by accident. They were exactly what that little boy needed in his moment of crisis.
We should always be careful about keeping our kids safe. But we should also trust that God watches over our families even when we can’t.
