Story Behind ‘I Need Thee Every Hour’ Hymn
This beloved hymn has a special history that goes back many years. An American housewife named Annie Sherwood Hawks wrote the words in June 1872 while doing her daily chores in Brooklyn. She was thirty seven years old then.
As she worked near her window she felt so strongly how helpless we are without God nearby. Her pastor Robert Lowry set her words to music and added the chorus.
Later in 1888 when her husband passed away she shared that she finally understood the deep comfort of her own words during her grief.
It’s such a grace to see our young ones spending their time and using their gifts for the Lord. Sometimes their voices speak to our hearts more than adults’ voices can. I am so glad to see these kids know how much they need Jesus in their lives. I wish all our young generation would come to Jesus.
May this song be an anthem of our souls. We need Jesus every moment of our lives. May we all have that craving in our hearts to walk with Him more and more every day and prepare ourselves to join Him on His return.
