You know how good it feels when someone close to you takes that step toward Jesus? That warm feeling in your chest when you see someone choose to follow Christ?

That’s what we felt watching this young man’s baptism video. Sometimes the best news comes from seeing someone say yes to God.

Holden posted a video of his baptism on X. He wrote “Thank you lord for this day” with the video.

The footage shows him walking into the baptismal pool. Two men help lower him into the water. When he comes back up, everyone in the church starts clapping.

You can hear Chris Tomlin’s ‘Jesus Messiah’ playing softly in the background.

This wasn’t the first time Holden talked about his faith. The young man from Alabama and Oregon has been open about trusting God through his football journey.

When he signed with the Cowboys in May, he said, “Everything happened this way for a reason.”

Back in January, when Holden announced he wanted to enter the NFL Draft, he started his statement with gratitude.

He said he wanted to give “all thanks to God for allowing me to be in this position to fulfill a childhood dream.” He shared that post with the words “Thank you, God.”

The NFL Draft came and went without Holden’s name being called. But he never lost hope.

On April 24, the first day of the 2025 NFL Draft, he posted Jeremiah 29:11 on his social media. The verse says, “I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'”

Two days later, someone commented about other players getting drafted even though they had fewer college stats than Holden. His response showed his trust in God’s timing: “The lord don’t make no mistakes.”

Even when the Cowboys offered him just a $3,000 signing bonus and no guaranteed money, Holden stayed grateful. His three year contract worth $2.9 million might seem small by NFL standards, but he sees God’s hand in it.

Holden spent most of his high school years at St. Frances Academy, a Catholic school in Baltimore, Maryland. He played three seasons at Alabama before moving to Oregon for his final two college years.

Holden reminds us that no matter what happens in our career or life, we should always strive to grow in our relationship with Jesus.

Through baptism we declare that we belong to Jesus and become a new creation in Him. When we go under the water, our old life dies with Christ. When we come back up, we rise with Him in new life.

Romans 6:4 tells us, “Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.”
