True heroes don’t care for their own safety but jump into action rescue others, and this is what one man did when he heard a mom screaming after her kids were trapped in a fire.
The incident
Zikhaya Sithole says that he heard a woman cry as her little children were in a burning shack, the brave-heart didn’t pause for a second and ran into the shack to save the children. “That’s when I pulled my hat over my face and ran into the flames,” shared the man. He suffered great burns as a result of his bravery.
Once he was inside the shack, he saw the 1-year-old and 2-year-old children of the woman. “When I got inside the shack, I heard the children crying. I grabbed the child who was on the bed and ran out, but when I wanted to go back for the other one, the flames were too strong,” shared Zikhaya.
Sadly one of the boys couldn’t make it, Zikhaya says, “But I never regretted entering the shack. I have saved a child. I wish I could have saved them both.” When Zikhaya went home, his friend Mapaseka saw that he was badly burned and called the paramedics. Zikhaya told Mapaseka that saving the children was worth the damage. “I am proud of him for what he did,” Mapaseka shared.
Dr. Convy Baloyli, President of the African Covenant said that Zikhaya’s bravery inspired him a lot, “We live in a world where men are said to be trash, but Zikhaya braved the flames to save kids. We will journey with him through his healing process, we don’t have much to offer, but we’ll work with him,” Dr. Convy shared.
Zikhaya’s been nominated for a Mendi Decoration for Bravery award, the family of the boys has come forward and thanked him. People have donated to help with his treatment of his burns and have also started a worldwide fundraiser for his healing.
