Ryder Boen had never really heard the world. Then one day in February, everything changed.
Ryder was born with hearing loss in both ears. From his very first days, hearing aids were simply part of life. But this February, doctors fitted him with something remarkable. The world’s only smart cochlear implant system. And when they turned it on, they told him to listen. His hearing aid was off, they said. What he could hear right now was coming entirely from the implant.
He went still. His eyes opened wide. “No way,” he said. Then again. “No way. No way.”
And then the tears came. Happy tears. His priceless reaction shows just how much it meant to him.
