We serve a God who doesn’t do coincidences. He puts people in the right place at the right time and he gives them exactly what they need to act. This story is proof of that.

She Was Just Sitting at a Red Light

Julie Reed was stopped at a traffic light in north Phoenix. Just a normal day. Then a car slammed into the back of an SUV right next to her and sent it flying into the intersection. The engine started smoking almost immediately.

Most people would sit there frozen. Not Julie. She jumped out of her car and ran straight toward the wreck.

25 Years of Being a Firefighter’s Wife Prepared Her For This

Julie has been married to a Valley firefighter for 25 years. And she says his habit of coming to the rescue just rubbed off on her. All those years of him drilling emergency training into her about how to respond in a crisis. It all came rushing back in that moment.

She grabbed the driver and helped pull him out of the vehicle. Seconds later the whole thing burst into flames.

“I think it was just kind of a surreal experience just being able to, you know, someone else’s hero at home step into that,” Julie said. “That light and show up in the ways I know that my husband has done, you know, for decades.”

Firefighters Arrived and Took Over

Phoenix fire crews got there shortly after. Julie watched as they worked fast to put out the fire and help both drivers on scene. Both drivers are okay.

She says she’s just glad she was there to help.

Julie didn’t wake up that morning thinking she was going to save somebody’s life. She was just sitting at a red light. But God had already equipped her through 25 years of marriage to a man who runs into danger for a living.

That’s how God works. He prepares us long before we even know what we’re being prepared for. Every conversation every lesson every moment that feels ordinary is building something inside of us for a day we can’t see yet.

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” — 2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV)
