Every prayer matters to God. Maybe you are in a situation right now where you don’t see any way out. No help coming. No one around. But God’s eyes are always on His children. He already knows what you are going through and already set a plan in motion.

For a 65-year-old man named Diego Fernandez-Delgado that plan came in the form of three teenage boys pulling into a McDonald’s parking lot in Cooper City, Florida on April 19.

A Quick Stop That Changed Everything

Logan Royer, 16, Cody Magrone, 16, and Brody Murray, 17, had plans to go fishing that Sunday afternoon and stopped at a McDonald’s on South Flamingo Road to grab something to eat. From the parking lot they noticed a man on the side of the road struggling with a flat tire. So they walked over to help.

“We were just out fishing and we stopped to get a bite to eat,” Magrone said. “We saw him on the side of the road and we were like let’s go help him.”

The man was 65-year-old Diego Fernandez-Delgado. His phone battery was dead. He had no way to call anyone.

Something Was Very Wrong

While Cody and Brody got to work changing the tire, Logan noticed something wasn’t right. Fernandez-Delgado was sitting in the passenger seat breathing heavy, sweating bad and barely talking. He told Logan he was having chest pains.

“It was very shocking to me… I thought he was having a heatstroke at first,” Logan said.

But it wasn’t heatstroke. The man was having a heart attack right there on the side of the road. And these three boys were the only ones around.

The Call That Saved His Life

Logan grabbed his phone and called 911. In the audio released by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, you can hear Logan telling the dispatcher, “There’s an old guy on the side of the road. We’re helping change his tire, and he does not feel good at all.”

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue arrived and rushed Fernandez-Delgado to Memorial Hospital West. He underwent several procedures and has since come home to recover. Authorities said the teens’ quick thinking likely saved his life.

Bodycam footage shows an officer thanking the boys before they left. “Hey, thanks again, guys. You guys are awesome, man. Appreciate it,” the officer said, giving one of them a fist-bump.

A Father’s Prayer Answered

Here’s the part that really gets you. Fernandez-Delgado’s son Cristian later shared that his father had been praying for help as his body was giving out on that roadside. He knew the situation was bad. He couldn’t fix the tire anymore and he couldn’t call for help.

“When I saw that I couldn’t do it anymore, you lose hope,” Fernandez-Delgado said. “And then I heard their voices.”

And what his son said about that moment honestly gives you chills. “God didn’t send angels with wings. He sent those boys,” Cristian said.

God Put Us There

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue arrived and rushed Fernandez-Delgado to Memorial Hospital West where he underwent several procedures. He has since returned home and is recovering.

Authorities confirmed that the teens’ quick response likely saved his life.

In bodycam footage from the scene a responding officer thanked the boys before they headed off. “Hey, thanks again, guys. You guys are awesome, man. Appreciate it,” the officer said, giving one of them a fist-bump.

Brody Murray didn’t take credit for the moment. He gave it to God. “I think it was very lucky. It’s just right place, right time. Maybe God put us there to help this guy out,” he said.

Logan felt it too. “I was really like, wow. We actually did that. And God sent us to help that guy. It was very, very, like, a miracle,” he said.

Community Honors the Heroes

On May 12 the Cooper City commission honored the three teens with a proclamation during a special session. They got a standing ovation.

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office said it best. “Their actions serve as a powerful reminder: sometimes, the difference between life and death starts with simply choosing to step in and help.”

Be the Answer to Someone’s Prayer

These three teens had no idea that a simple stop to help a stranger with a flat tire would end up saving his life. But God knew their willing hearts and used them right where they were.

So let us be people with willing hearts. Ready to stop, ready to help and ready to be used by God. Because someone out there might be praying right now and you could be the answer God sends.

“The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth.” — Psalm 145:18
