CeCe Winans Sings Soul-Stirring Rendition of ‘What a Friend We Have in Jesus’

Gospel icon CeCe Winans sings a soulful rendition of the classic Christian hymn ‘What a Friend We Have in Jesus.’

CeCe Winans What a Friend We Have in Jesus

Joseph Scriven wrote ‘What a Friend We Have in Jesus’ back in 1855 as a poem for his mother when she was going through a really hard season.

Charles Converse put it to music in 1868 and it has been filling church halls ever since. The whole message of this hymn comes down to one thing. We do not have to carry our pain by ourselves. We have a friend in Jesus who says bring it all to me.

In this music video, there is no big choir or huge orchestra behind her. Just her voice and a piano in a church.

Our friends might walk away. Even our parents may not always be there. Even the people closest to you might not be there when you really need them. But Jesus is not like that. He does not leave. He does not get tired of hearing from you. He is the one friend who shows up every single time no matter what you are going through. And this song reminds us of that in the most beautiful way. We have a friend who sticks closer than a brother and his name is Jesus.

“Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” — John 15:13 (NKJV)
