A man spent years building handmade squirrel boxes out of his own garage put cameras on them and what he caught on those cameras will make you stop scrolling.

Squirrels are surprisingly particular about where they live. They look for spots that are warm secure and hidden from predators. Just like us they need a place where they can truly rest. One man decided he was going to give them exactly that. And what he discovered was something we rarely get to see about them.
John’s Story
John built over a thousand squirrel boxes by hand. He gave every single one away. “I just kept building and kept building and kept building,” he said. “Kind of OCD, just wanting to help as many as I could.” Nobody asked him to do it. He just started and could not stop.
What He Saw Inside Those Boxes
He put cameras on the boxes to keep the animals safe and that is when things got interesting. He rescued over 30 baby squirrels and took them to wildlife rehabs when their moms did not come back. But the rescues were not even the most surprising part.
The cameras showed him things he did not expect. Siblings curled up together. Moms walking their young around the yard showing them where the food was where the water was and which boxes were safe.
And then there was the night it hit minus-10 degrees. Sixteen squirrels. All packed into one box together because that was the only way to survive the cold.
“You’ll see the moms love their kids,” John said. And honestly you can see it right there on the footage.
Grandpa John
Mothers would bring their babies to his tree, stay a few days and then leave. John became the one they left their kids with. He calls himself grandpa.
Because of one man’s compassionate heart, thousands of squirrels now have a safe place to sleep raise their young and survive the harshest winters. It brought joy to John. But it also brought something beautiful to the world around him.
That is what happens when one person decides to care. It spreads further than they ever planned.
