A talented family country band brings judges and audience members to their feet on America’s Got Talent with a soulful acapella rendition of John Denver’s beloved hit song ‘Take Me Home, Country Roads.’
Who Is The Sound Country Band?
So this wonderful family band is called The Sound. They came all the way from Romeo Michigan. The group features dad Rob Mills and his two sons Levi and Jacob.
Music is truly in their blood. Rob spent many years singing gospel music across the country. His oldest son Levi was singing when he was just two years old and Jacob joined in at ten.
They officially started this family group back in 2017. Since then they have earned five Dove Award nominations and landed four consecutive number one radio hits.
Their 2022 album “God Is Real” won a Dove Award for Country Album of the Year, cementing their place in Christian country music.
Performing a Country Classic on AGT
When they walked out under the bright lights you could feel their warm energy right away. They chose to sing the iconic hit song ‘Take Me Home, Country Roads’. That legendary track was written back in 1970 by Bill Danoff Taffy Nivert and John Denver before Denver released it as a single in April 1971.
The family trio begin their performance by asking the whole audience to start clapping along to a simple beat. Then they start singing the beloved song without their instruments. Their three-part family harmonies sound so beautiful and it instantly puts a smile on everyone’s face.
Then Rob plays the electric bass guitar, Levi plays percussion, and Jacob strums an acoustic guitar. Towards the end of the song they hold out a long beautiful note. They held it so long that judges stand up early because they thought the song was finished. But the family comes right back in for one last chorus that brings down the house.
What the Judges Had to Say
So all four judges had great things to say. Mel B admits she does not usually listen to country music but says their rich family harmonies made her feel happy inside.
Howie Mandel jokes that they held that last note so long the stage crew almost came out to pack up their gear.
Simon Cowell calls it a very safe audition but says they have real talent. He gives them some honest advice about taking bigger risks in the next round.
In the end all four judges vote yes to send them through. Host Terry Crews who is also from Michigan comes out to give them a big hug for making their state proud.
Using Our Family Talents to Honor God
The Bible tells us in 1 Peter 4:10 that we should use whatever gift we have received to serve others as faithful stewards of God’s grace. So when we see this family sing together, they are living out that verse in a real way.
