Famous Ozark musicians The Haygoods perform an all-vocal a cappella rendition of the beloved Christian hymn ‘How Great Thou Art.’
My heart just filled right up listening to these five brothers and their sister sing together. No instruments were playing at all. Instead they used their gifted voices to carry the melody.
Their incredible harmonies hit every high note so clearly and brought me chills. The peaceful woods and the sweet chirping of birds added natural background music that made their performance even more beautiful.
These talented siblings came from humble beginnings in a small mobile home in 1983. Eldest brother Timothy saw a violin on television and wanted to learn. Soon all six siblings picked up instruments and learned to sing together.
In 1993 they moved to Branson, Missouri. They worked hard and played six shows a day at Silver Dollar City for eight long years. By 2001 they opened their own independent show. They became the youngest family in Branson history to headline a major theater. Over the years they have sold over seven million tickets.
Yet even with all that big success they stayed true to their humble roots.
The song they sang has such a special history for us believers. A Swedish minister named Carl Boberg wrote the original poem back in 1885 after getting caught in a sudden thunderstorm.
Later on in 1949 a missionary named Stuart K. Hine translated those words into the English hymn we love today. When we hear this hymn it reminds us of God’s great majesty across creation.
Watching this family honor the Lord out in nature feels like such a blessing to my soul.
