A single mother adopts three siblings after fostering twin boys and discovering their older brother. She fought to keep them together for nearly a thousand days. Recently she shared their heartwarming foster care adoption story on The Jennifer Hudson Show.
Watching this single mother’s adoption journey brought tears to my eyes because her dedication is overwhelming. Kayla Daniels from Arkansas started fostering in October 2021 when she took in eight-month-old twin boys named Kaden and Jaden.
According to CBS affiliate 5NEWS she soon learned the twins had an older brother named MJ which stands for Maverick Jace so she took him in the next month to ensure they would not be separated.
I feel so much respect for her stepping up to be the protector those sweet boys desperately needed and it is just so wonderful to see someone with that kind of pure love.
Many children in the system are torn apart from their siblings but Kayla made it her absolute priority to keep this trio together.
Kayla admitted she was initially uncertain about her mothering abilities but she trusted that “God is going to give you everything you need” to succeed.
When Jennifer Hudson pointed out that being a foster parent isn’t easy and asked how she was able to get through it she credited the “three Fs, family, faith, and friends” for keeping her strong.
She views her growing family as a beautiful blessing entrusted to her. She expressed this perfectly noting that “it becomes like this thing from God where he like he’s entrusting you with them. And so like you have to honor them and you also have to honor him with them” which just melts my heart.
The legal adoption process took a grueling 935 days to finish. Kayla openly shared her deep faith about that incredibly long road. She actually started the journey hoping to reunite the boys with their family because that is the absolute goal of foster care. But she eventually realized that “God’s plan was just so different for us” when adoption became a reality.
The grueling process required intense dedication including massive 10-hour days driving five hours one way to court and five hours back. She remembers that during that long journey God gave her assurance when she felt the Lord tell her “They’re going to be your kids. You’re going to be their mom, and I have equipped you with everything you need.”
Foster care adoption processes are incredibly unpredictable and even though she was doing her absolute best every single day she really did not know if the boys were going to stay or leave. But God kept reassuring her heart.
When I look at those beautiful boys, I praise God for this brave woman for putting so much effort into providing them a loving home together.
During the episode, Jennifer Hudson surprised the entire family with a magical vacation to Walt Disney World.
Kayla calls her three boys her Sonshines and she told 5NEWS “They are truly God’s gift to me. I’m so elated to be their mom and get to do life with them because they are just such amazing boys.” She also encouraged others to take the leap if they are considering fostering children. She stated “If you’re thinking about fostering, I would absolutely say do it.”
There are over 100,000 children waiting for a loving home in the US foster care system. That massive number just leaves me completely speechless and sad. So many young lives are just sitting there waiting for someone to finally notice them. We really need to step up and do something to help.
