Back in 1971, gospel music pioneers Bill and Gloria Gaither were going through a very dark season. The Vietnam War was raging, societal tension was high and Bill was suffering from illness while they faced unfair criticism from friends.
Gloria was pregnant with their third baby and wondered if bringing a child into such a broken world was even wise. Sitting in her living room on New Year’s Eve, she felt a deep wave of panic. But then God touched her heart with a gentle sense of peace that reminded her of the resurrection. That quiet assurance inspired them to write Because He Lives which became one of the most beloved Christian hymns in history.
The song reminds us that God sent His Son to love us, heal our wounds, and forgive our sins on the cross. It then points to the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the hope that comes from it.
Because He lives, we don’t have to be afraid of what tomorrow holds. We can face each day with confidence, knowing that God is in control of our future.
When I listened to this saxophone cover by Uriel Vega I honestly got goosebumps. Uriel started playing the saxophone at age ten in Mexico City. He released over twenty solo albums with millions of streams worldwide. He uses his gift as a ministry to comfort souls.
In this performance his smooth saxophone notes blend softly with piano. Hearing that music soothes our soul and gives us a calm assurance that because He lives, we can face what comes tomorrow.
