A 16 year old teen Rhami Zeini was driving home from school when a black purse lying in the middle of the road caught his attention.
This Santa Barbara, California, high school junior opened it and saw more money than he ever had seen in his life before: $10,000.
He searched for the owner’s phone number in the purse but couldn’t find it, he then told his parents.
His parents then drove him straight to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office where a watch officer was able to locate the owner and return the money.
“To me, I figured this is the right thing to do,” Zeini said. “If the roles were reversed and I had lost something with a significant sum of money inside, I know I would want it back for sure.”
The owner of the purse was so thankful that she gave Rhami $100. She thinks she left the purse on the roof of her car when she drove away.
