A Christian meteorologist paused his live broadcast to pray for the protection of hundreds of families after catastrophic floodwaters swept through the Texas Hill Country.
We know that when the waters rise around us and our earthly stability starts to shake, God is the only place we can truly turn. Because we know He gives us a solid rock to stand when everything falls apart.
Chief Meteorologist Bill Taylor was giving his usual forecast on KENS 5 when heavy storms hit in July 2026. Slow moving storms poured down as much as 28 inches of rain over three days and sent the Guadalupe River surging over 30 feet high near Comfort.
It was a terrifying situation that took at least two lives and forced over 230 emergency water rescues across the region. So Bill Taylor stopped mid broadcast and turned to the Lord right there on television.
He prayed, “Praying for these people in the path of this storm. That Lord God, your sovereignty would be here. That you, Lord, would protect everyone in the path of this storm. That you would give wisdom and clarity for families to seek shelter. That these plans would enact now. that people would reach out to those people in this affected area to give them the warning they need. In your holy name, protect us, Lord.”
And that moment quickly spread across social media. This disaster hit one year after the July 2025 flood that killed over 135 people across Texas including 28 lives lost at Camp Mystic in Kerr County.
Governor Greg Abbott noted, “No one can be complacent when rainfall and waters rise.” Over 2,300 first responders deployed and new warning sirens helped alert campers to move higher.
Bill Taylor pointed us back to Psalm 46:1 which says “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (NKJV). So let us keep our faith in Him through every trial. Please pray with us for all the families recovering across the Texas Hill Country as they rebuild.
We are seeing natural disasters, wars, and many heartbreaking across the news today. You might be sitting helplessly at home wondering what you could do to help the suffering people thousands of miles away. But the absolute biggest thing we can do for them is to pray fervently for them.
As the Bible tells us in Galatians 6:2, “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ” (NKJV), and James 5:16 reminds us that “the effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much” (NKJV).
Bill Taylor didn’t care that he was on a live news broadcast because he knew a prayer was the most important thing at that moment than his television routine.
Let praying for others be our first priority than our own matters. Even when our hands cannot reach them physically, our prayers can bring God’s almighty hand directly into their lives.
