Former professional wrestler and Hollywood star, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, is known for his acts of kindness and generosity. Recently, he has touched many hearts by offering a new home to Themba Gorimbo, a UFC fighter.
Themba Gorimbo has faced many challenges in his life. He lost his parents when he was young and barely survived while illegally mining for diamonds in Zimbabwe. In search of a better future, Gorimbo moved to Miami and trained as a fighter, sleeping on a couch in the gym.
Despite the challenges, Gorimbo made headlines when he won his first professional fight in May with just $7 in his bank account. Instead of using the money for himself, he sent it to his village in Zimbabwe to help build a water well.
Gorimbo’s story resonated with Johnson, who himself had experienced financial hardships. Johnson had publicly expressed his desire to help Gorimbo in June. This week, he delivered on that promise.
In a moving video shared on social media, Johnson surprised Gorimbo during an interview. Johnson expressed how Gorimbo’s story had deeply affected him, saying, “Your story moved me. When I found out you had seven bucks in your bank account — I know what that’s like. I was here in Miami when I had seven bucks. But then, you win your fight, and you sell your fight kit, you buy a water well for your village in Zimbabwe so your people can have clean water. Because you could have taken that money and put it down on a car, on an apartment. But you didn’t. You took care of your people, and that just says exactly who you are and that’s why I flew all the way in, man, just to look you in the eyes, brother, and tell you I got your back.”
Johnson then gave Gorimbo a ride and presented him with a key to a new house. In response to Johnson’s generosity, Gorimbo decided to use the money he had been saving for a house to build another well for his village in Zimbabwe.
Gorimbo expressed his gratitude on Twitter, saying, “God is the Greatest. I am very grateful of @therock for what he did for me and my family. This was the best day of my life. This was a life changing day. My life has been changed and I will use this as motivation to change others lives too. I am very very grateful to everyone.”
