We give back to God to express our gratitude for the blessings in our lives and as a way of acknowledging that everything we have ultimately comes from God.
However, this can be a difficult concept to grasp for children. It was the case of this young boy whose funny moment with the offering basket was caught on camera. He was going to learn about proper church protocols.
As the offering basket came down his row, the boy dropped his dollar in with a sly smile and decided to quickly take it back. But his observant grandma slides it right out of his grasp, and back into the basket. This is a gentle reminder that once you give to God, it’s best to leave it be.
It also reminds us of the importance of instilling in children the concepts of worship and reverence for God. The boy’s family was setting an example for him, showing him that giving back to God is an important part of their faith.
We are also reminded of the bonds between the young and old in a church community which is to be cherished. The fact that this little boy had a group of people around him, teaching him and guiding him, is a testament to the power of community and fellowship.
