At the 2026 FIFA World Cup, two rival teams walked off the pitch and straight into a prayer circle together and the moment spread all over the world.

The world is in full World Cup fever right now. Every team is fighting hard for their country and doing everything they can to beat their opponents. You don’t expect rivals to come together in a moment like this especially after such a big game.
But if there is one thing that unites people regardless of what country they’re from or what team they support it’s the love of Jesus Christ. And that is exactly what happened here.
Germany had just beaten Curaçao 7–1 in their Group E match in Houston. It was a big win for Germany and a tough night for Curaçao. But before the game even started Germany’s Felix Nmecha had already reached out to Curaçao’s Kenji Gorré, a player he knew personally.
The two agreed that no matter what the score was they would bring their teammates together to pray when the final whistle blew. And they did. Nmecha and his Germany teammate Jonathan Tah joined a group of Curaçao players and formed a prayer circle right there on the pitch.
Nmecha later spoke to Sky Germany about why he did it. “Before the match, we agreed that afterwards we would come together, regardless of the result, to show that we are brothers in Christ and that there is more to life than football,” he said.
He also said something that really stays with you. “Overall, we all believe that Jesus is glorified through the game, and that is why we came together. During the game, we are opponents facing one another, but after the match, we are all Christians, and we are like brothers.”
He also made a point to thank the Curaçao players for showing up with grace after a painful loss. “I wanted to thank Kenji and the Curaçao players because this isn’t something you take for granted after a defeat. It was a very special moment.”
It was also a historic night for Curaçao. Livano Comenencia scored his country’s first ever World Cup goal which briefly tied the match before Germany took over.
We may support different teams and come from different countries but we all belong to the same God. That is what these players showed the world. God bless them for it.
