Former country singer Granger Smith shares a powerful message about Jesus Christ.
Every believer needs to ask themselves, who is Jesus to me? Is He just someone we need during our illness?
Is He just someone who provides in our financial struggles? Is He just someone who gives us courage when we are alone?
Most of the time we give Jesus a place that comes after our priorities.
We need Jesus, but we don’t want to let Him take full control of our lives. Because we have some areas that we need to adjust according to our will.
Is this how we should treat the One who gave His life for us and has all authority over heaven and earth?
In this video, Granger Smith gives us a powerful reminder about who Jesus really is and how we should approach Him.
The whole thing started when a gentle man walked up to Smith. The man had kind eyes and a warm smile. He shook Smith’s hand and pressed something small into his palm.
It was a tiny Jesus figurine with a yellow sash that said “Jesus loves you.” Then the man said something that bothered Smith deeply.
“Everybody needs a little Jesus,” the man said with a smile.
Smith nodded and was polite, but something felt wrong inside. He thought about those words for a long time.
“A little Jesus? It says so much about what we have reduced him to in this society,” Smith explained.
Smith realized we often treat Jesus like a trinket we keep in our pocket. We want Him small enough to make us feel better but not big enough to change how we live.
We like the idea of Jesus loving us and comforting us. But we do not want Him telling us what to do with our lives.
“We want him small enough to comfort us but definitely not big enough to confront us,” Smith said. “We want him kind enough to soothe our guilts but not holy enough to demand our lives.”
But Smith reminded everyone that Jesus is much more than a comfort object. Yes, Jesus loves us. He touched sick people. He welcomed children and people that others did not like.
But this same Jesus also flipped tables in the temple. He commanded storms to stop. He cast out demons and raised dead people back to life.
Jesus said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” The Bible says He holds the whole universe together with His power.
“He is not a trinket,” Smith said firmly. “He is the judge of the living and the dead. And he comes into our lives not to just round it out he comes to take it over. The real Jesus is no figurine. He is not a part of your life. He is your life, or he is nothing at all.”
Smith wrote that Jesus “died for sinners and rose in power. We don’t need a little Jesus. We need the risen Christ—Savior, Sovereign, and the only way to life.”
Smith’s words hit home because they are true. Jesus does not want to be our lucky charm. He wants to be our Lord and Savior.
He wants all of us, not just the parts we feel comfortable giving Him.
When we truly understand who Jesus is, we realize He deserves our whole heart and our whole life.
