Chris Tomlin wrote ‘Holy Forever’ and released it in September 2022 as part of his album called ‘Always’. Tomlin wanted to show us a glimpse of the endless worship that happens in heaven. The song talks about people from all times coming together to praise God.

Andrew Martin has been sharing his love for hymns online since 2016. In this video, he shows off his talent by singing four different voice parts – alto, soprano, tenor, and bass. When he puts them all together, it sounds like a whole group of people singing!

The words of ‘Holy Forever’ are really touching. They paint a beautiful picture of generations of people worshipping God:

A thousand generations falling down in worship
To sing the song of ages to the Lamb
And all who’ve gone before us and all who will believe
Will sing the song of ages to the Lamb

‘Holy Forever’ was inspired from the book of Revelation. He explains, “What’s amazing is that there is an eternal song and we know the lyrics. It’s ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty.'” This praise to God never stops in heaven, and Tomlin wanted to capture that feeling in his song.

The album ‘Always’, which includes ‘Holy Forever’, is all about how God is always faithful to us. Tomlin says, “The idea is that we think about ‘always’ as that of eternal, everlasting, infinite. That’s who God is.” It’s comforting to know that God is always there for us, even when we mess up.

Singing without instruments has been part of church worship for a long time. By singing ‘Holy Forever’ this way, Martin connects this new song to the old traditions of the church. It shows us how we can use our gifted voices to glorify God in a unique way.

May this song help us remember that God is always holy and always faithful. As we go about our day, let’s keep this song in our hearts and praise our heavenly Father.
