Comedian’s Hilarious Take on Prayer Requests Has Everyone Cracking Up

Comedian John Crist has everyone laughing with his honest take on prayer requests that probably shouldn’t be taken to the Lord.

Prayer connects us directly to God. It’s one of our most sacred gifts. But John Crist wants us to think about what we’re actually asking God to handle, especially when it comes to problems we created ourselves.

John shared some funny stories during his third stand-up special. A friend once asked him to pray about passing a drug test. John’s answer was quick: “I’m not praying for that.”

Another time, his sister sent a family group text. She asked everyone to pray for her son Malachi because he was having a tough day. John wanted more details.

He asked what was going on with his nephew. His sister sent him a private message back. She told him Malachi had tendonitis in his thumbs from holding the iPad too long.

“I go, ‘I’m not praying for that,'” John said. “I’m not putting that up to the God of the universe with my name on it.”

John also talked about NASCAR and MMA fights. He pointed out how strange it seems to pray before deliberately dangerous activities.

“Jesus, we have engineered these cars to go 250 miles per hour, we will race them for six hours three inches from each other, we just pray that you would help us not to die,” he joked. “God’s like, yeah, just don’t race.”

He mentioned a group of Christian hikers who climbed Mount Everest. They got stuck at the top during a storm. People started sharing prayer requests on Facebook.

John had a different view: “You should have prayed for wisdom when you were back at the house.”

John’s comedy makes us laugh, but it also makes us think. We can bring anything to God in prayer. He cares about every part of our lives. But we should also use the wisdom He’s already given us to make good choices in the first place.

Verse of the Day

“For this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men— as free, yet not using liberty as a cloak for vice, but as bondservants of God.”
