We all have a list of excuses for why we aren’t using the gifts God gave us, don’t we? We tell ourselves that we are too busy, or that our current situation needs to get better.

We wait for that perfect season that may never happen. But the truth is, if God has a plan for you, you cannot keep that light hidden forever. He will not wait for our situations to change. He will use wherever we are. This sewer worker is such a wonderful example of that.

Kyle Kilroy is thirty-two years old and he works for a waste management company just outside of Boston. He is a humble, blue-collar guy who loves his wife and spends his time caring for their two horses, two dogs, and a cat. He has this secret talent that he kept tucked away for years. He actually taught himself how to sing opera when he was just a little boy in preschool.

During nap time, his teachers would play the album ‘Romanza’ by Andrea Bocelli on a cassette tape. While the other children were drifting off to sleep, Kyle was wide awake. He was absorbing every single note. He found such comfort in those melodies that he spent those quiet hours teaching himself how to mimic those powerful sounds. It just goes to show that God starts planting seeds in our hearts long before we even know what to do with them.

It wasn’t always easy for him though. Kyle was bullied quite a bit when he was younger, often because of his weight, and that music he discovered as a toddler became his safe place to hide.

But instead of letting that pain make him bitter, Kyle let it settle into his voice. He eventually discovered that the basement at his work had these amazing acoustics. He started recording himself there, but he was so shy that he would wait until his coworker went out to lunch before he ever let out a note.

He isn’t looking for the bright lights of fame. He just wants to share the gift. His big dream is to sing ‘The Prayer’ with Andrea Bocelli one day.

We have to remember that tomorrow is not in our hands, so let us use whatever chances God gives us today to use our gifts for His glory.
