A 9-year-old Michigan boy saved his church leader’s life using CPR he had learned from a video just one day earlier.
God’s timing never stops being amazing. He doesn’t always send a trained professional or a seasoned first responder. Sometimes He sends a fourth grader who watched a video the night before.
In early February, Logan Vangemert was at his church in Richland when his supervisor Tom suddenly collapsed and went into cardiac arrest.
Logan didn’t freeze. He rolled Tom over and started doing CPR right there. Tom survived.
The most amazing part is that this 9-year-old had only learned how to do CPR the day before from a video, and that effort paid off almost immediately.
Logan himself knows it wasn’t just him in that moment. “Whenever I helped him is when the Holy Spirit talked to me,” he said. That’s not something a kid makes up. That’s a real encounter with God.
His mom Jessica was emotional about it too, and honestly, who wouldn’t be. “I am beyond proud of him for taking the step up and stepping out and doing something extremely difficult, even for adults,” she said.
Logan was honored at a school assembly at Brandon Elementary, with his whole school cheering him on. The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office also recognized him.
The American Heart Association pointed out that kids as young as 9 are physically capable of doing CPR, and Logan proved exactly that.
He now wants to pursue a career in medicine. Makes sense after something like that.
We don’t always feel ready when God calls us to act. Logan wasn’t trained. He was just willing. And that was enough.
Next time we feel unqualified, let’s remember a 9-year-old who saved a life because he said yes when it mattered most.
