Police Officer Buys Dinner For Shoplifting Suspects

The Bible speaks of God’s love for people living in poverty and how we should be kind to help the poor.

Jesus showed us how to care for the poor and oppressed and today a Massachusetts police officer is being praised for providing Christmas dinner from out of pocket to two women charged with stealing groceries for their children.

Somerset Officer Matt Lima was responding to a call of shoplifting on Dec. 20 at Stop & Shop, where the two mothers with their two young children were caught putting groceries into bags without scanning them at a self-checkout kiosk.

They were facing hard times putting a Christmas dinner on the table and Officer Lima responded in the kindest way by saying that he was reminded of his own children who decided to pay out of pocket to buy $250 in grocery gift cards.

“His actions exemplify what it means to protect and serve the members of our community,” Chief George McNeil said on the department’s website.

Deuteronomy 15:10 (NIV) “Give generously to them and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the LORD your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to.”
