A mother captured a touching scene when an orangutan at the Louisville Zoo seemingly requested a closer look at her 3-month-old son and gave him a sweet kiss.
God fills His creation with love in ways that surprise us. We see His heart reflected in the most unexpected places. Animals often show us the gentle care that comes from our Creator.
Kayla Jaylen Natsiss brought her 3-month-old son Jordan to the Louisville Zoo in Kentucky for a family visit. When they reached the orangutan exhibit, something special happened. Jordan’s grandmother held him close to the glass wall that separated them from the animals.
One of the orangutans noticed the tiny baby and moved closer. The ape looked at Jordan with what seemed like curiosity and care. Then she did something that melted everyone’s hearts.
“We brought him over so she could see him and she kissed the glass two times,” Natsiss told Storyful. “Everyone there, including us, thought it was the cutest thing ever!”
The orangutan pressed her lips against the glass twice, right where the baby was. It looked like she was giving Jordan gentle kisses through the barrier. Other visitors watched in wonder as this tender moment unfolded.
The Louisville Zoo houses four orangutans: Teak, Amber, Segundo, and Bella. These amazing animals have strong family bonds, much like humans do. Baby orangutans stay with their mothers longer than any other ape species – sometimes up to ten years.
For the first two years of life, young orangutans depend completely on their mothers for food and getting around. Mother orangutans teach their babies important skills like finding food and building nests. They guide their young ones for six to seven years. Even after that, the children visit their mothers until they turn fifteen or sixteen.
The word “orangutan” means “man of the forest” in the Malay language. This name shows how connected these creatures are to humans.
This sweet encounter reminds us that God designed all His creatures with the ability to show love and gentleness. Even across different species, His love shines through in beautiful ways.
“Ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you. Which of all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this? In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.” (Job 12:7-10).
