Campus police officer Carlton Smith was working security at a West Virginia University basketball game when the scheduled singer got stuck in traffic. With only five minutes’ notice, he agreed to take the microphone.

Smith had auditioned for ‘American Idol’ in 2014 and was raised singing in church. His rendition of the national anthem immediately stunned the crowd.

“Any chance I get to do the ‘National Anthem’ is always a big deal to me,” he said. His calm spirit and powerful voice made it a moment no one there would forget.

This reminds us that God gives each of us gifts for a reason. When we step forward in faith, even with little time to prepare, He provides what we need to shine.

Let’s stay willing and open—because God can use us in ways we never imagined.
