A little girl asked wildlife expert Robert Irwin about being brave, and his answer touched everyone’s heart.
Children often ask questions that make us stop and think. Their pure curiosity never fails to amaze us and often teaches us valuable lessons.
Here a little girl asked Robert Irwin a thoughtful question and his response made the moment even sweeter.
Robert Irwin carries on his famous father Steve Irwin’s work with animals and conservation. He teaches people about wildlife and continues the family mission at Australia Zoo.
Robert was finishing up a demonstration and had time for one last question. A little girl raised her hand. Nobody expected what she would ask next.
“How did you get so brave?” she said.
People around smiled at her sweet question. But Robert’s answer made everyone’s heart melt.
“That is very sweet, thank you,” Robert said. “That’s a very good question. Well, you know what? I think I’ve got a really good family around me. They help to really lift me up. They make me feel very proud at what I do. And you know, the thing is, there’s a difference between bravery and being afraid. I’m afraid all the time, all the time, and that’s OK. All the time, and when I jump in with a crocodile, I’m afraid. It’s a little bit scary, but the most important thing is how you respond to that fear. And the people you keep around you help to lift you up and keep you brave and courageous. That’s what it’s all about.”
His honest words hit everyone right in the heart. Robert admits that he gets scared too. He feels afraid when working with dangerous animals, but the love and support from his family keep him brave.
