We all know that sinking feeling when God seems far away. We pray but get no answers. We used to feel His presence, but now there’s just silence.

Our hearts feel empty, and we wonder if God has forgotten about us. These dark seasons hit every believer at some point.

Lane talked about this exact struggle in a YouTube video. She remembered a conversation with her boyfriend, who is now her husband. She told him how lost she felt spiritually.

“I just feel like I’m struggling to feel God in my life,” she said. “I used to pray and feel like I heard answers instantly and just feel like he’s left the building.”

Her boyfriend gave her an answer that changed everything. “He turned to me and said, ‘Olivia, faith is not a feeling,'” she recalled.

“Faith is a choice. Faith is the Assurance of things hoped for and the evidence of things unseen, which means we can have confidence in things that are unseen, God who is unseen.”

Olivia learned something beautiful about feelings and faith. “See feelings are fleeting,” she explained. “Faith in the moments where God is silent is necessary because he’s growing you. Silence does not mean absence. God is just maturing you.”

Her message hits home because it’s true. God doesn’t leave us when we can’t feel Him. He’s still there, working in ways we can’t see.

Those quiet times aren’t punishment or abandonment. They’re growth periods where God shapes us into who He wants us to become.

When feelings fail us, we can choose to trust Him anyway. That’s when real faith kicks in.
