A group of seniors in Middle Tennessee spent a full day sliding, laughing and feeling like kids again at a special slip-and-slide event organized just for them.

We all have so many things from our childhood that we secretly wish we could do again. Slip-and-Slide is definitely one of them. But as someone once said age is a liar and it pulls us back from most of the things we find joy in. Well a group in Tennessee decided they weren’t going to let that stop their seniors.
The event was put together by Senior Helpers and AdamsPlace and they called it the “ride and slide.” The Murfreesboro Fire Department came out to hose down the slide and helped residents get on and off safely.
The MTSU football team and cheerleaders were also there pulling seniors along on large inflatable floats.
One resident had already gone down four times and was still smiling. “That was fast,” she said.
The people behind the event knew this was about more than just fun. “It builds hope and love,” one volunteer said. “They’ll be like, oh you made my day today. It’s a blessing just to make people happy.”
One moment stood out above the rest. A resident with dementia and Parkinson’s disease took part in the event and his wife was right there watching. She said it was a big step for him after a really hard time. “So much joy to see them,” she said. “It makes me so happy.”
None of us know how much time we have on this earth. But in this short journey let us find joy in the little things we love. Do not think about your age or worry about who is watching you.
A cheerful heart is a gift from God and He wants us to enjoy it. So go ahead and do something you really missed and have been wanting to do again.
