When a group of women walks on stage in pink robes and gray wigs, leaning on walkers, you expect a quiet little number. You certainly don’t expect the floorboards to start smoking.

But that’s exactly what happened when Southern Jewels Real Gems took the floor in the Amateur Show category at the 2026 Southern Invitational. Southern Jewels is the competitive clogging team of the Southern Dance Academy in Gaffney, South Carolina, a studio that has turned out national championship teams.
Instead of the usual sparkly outfits, the team tried something completely different. The music started, and they broke right into a fast, high-energy clogging and tap routine. The crowd loved every second of it.
Their footwork was quick and precise from the very first step. And they didn’t just wear those old-lady costumes for a laugh. They leaned right into them, lifting the metal walkers, tapping around them and using them as props without missing a beat. Every step landed right on the music.
No wonder this clogging dance routine is going viral.
We spend so much time worrying about getting older. We worry about losing our step and having nothing left to offer. But the Bible says, “A merry heart does good, like medicine” (Proverbs 17:22, NKJV). It doesn’t say you only get a merry heart when you’re young.
You don’t have to stop living just because the years are adding up. So keep moving, and keep finding reasons to smile. Don’t let anyone tell you your best days are behind you when God is still giving you the strength to stand up today.
