An unlikely bond between a dog and a squirrel is melting hearts everywhere.
We all have that one friend who stays even when we have nothing to offer but our presence. We wait for their calls or a meet-up, and we enjoy every single moment spent with them. You can see that same sweet connection between this tiny squirrel and her favorite dog.
Tricia watched this beautiful story unfold right at her window. A squirrel she named Helen became completely smitten with her dog, Oliver. This isn’t a new thing or a passing phase. Helen has visited Oliver every day for the past five years.
When Tricia takes Oliver outside for his walks, Helen is already there. She spots him from a distance and just watches over him.
Helen even comes to the specific window where she can see Oliver if he is resting in his chair. Tricia jokingly asks them, “You having a conversation?”
Sometimes it is a little one-sided. Oliver will turn his back and look away, but Helen doesn’t leave. She still stares. She stays because being near him is enough.
The trust between them is so deep that Helen even shares her family with him. Once a year she has babies. She actually brought one of her own in to meet him.
It was like, “Hey, check out this dog. He’s pretty cool.” They are just happy to be in each other’s space.
When Helen doesn’t show up for a few days, Oliver feels the gap. He props himself up and looks for her. He waits for his friend.
Tricia felt so moved by this that she wrote a song called ‘Oliver and Helen’. She sings about how they are a match made in heaven.
Our God is a loving God. How many times in our lives have we ignored Him to choose our own ways? Yet He still wants to walk with us and still cares for us. He stands at the window of our hearts, waiting for us to turn back and simply be with Him.
