Police officer James Riley, gave a young boy walking home alone, a ride home and also bought his family groceries.
According to a post by the Austin Police Department, Officer Riley was in Central West Austin when someone alerted him to a young boy walking alone in a parking lot.
Riley approached the boy and learned that he had gone to the corner store alone to buy snacks for his younger sibling.
The officer gave the young boy a ride home out of concern for his safety.
When he was inside the boy’s home, he found out that the family was experiencing “difficult financial times.”
So he went to the H-E-B and bought a cart full of grocery and snacks so that the boys could eat without turning on the gas stove.
He also got food stuff that their parents could cook for them.
Riley spoke to the kids about safety and told them not to leave their home without an adult.
“Please join us in commending Officer Riley for helping out a family in need,” the department wrote. “He showed true heart with this act of kindness and is just one example of how our officers work to make Austin a safe community.”
