Comedian Tim Hawkins left the audience in stitches when he shared how he accidentally chose the wrong Bible verse during an autograph signing.
How many of us have been there? You’re sharing God’s Word with someone, maybe teaching Sunday school or preaching at church.
You want to quote the perfect Bible verse, but your mind goes blank. Or worse, you give the wrong reference and later realize your mistake.
That sinking feeling hits your stomach when you know you messed up something important about Scripture.
Tim went through the same thing when he mistakenly shared the wrong Bible verse during an autograph signing.
The incident happened about few years ago after one of Hawkins’ shows in front of nearly 2,000 people. Following his performance, he was taken to a room for autograph signing.
When the first woman in line asked him to write his favorite Bible verse along with his signature, Hawkins intended to share Psalm 34:8: “Taste and see that the Lord is good; happy are those who take refuge in him.”
However, his mind went completely blank. In his panic, he decided to make up a verse and randomly chose Psalm 38:7. He signed this verse for all hundred people in line that night.
Driving home, he desperately prayed, “Oh Lord, I hope that was a good verse. No Lord could you change the scripture if it’s not just for one night.”
When he looked up the verse later, his horror was complete. Psalm 38:7 reads: “Lo I have a painful disease in my loins.”
As Hawkins put it, “What are there a billion verses in the Bible and I chose that one.”
Tim’s wrong Bible verse mishap left the audience roaring with laughter.
