Woman Caught Shoplifting Birthday Presents For Child Receives Warm Surprise From Police Officer

A police officer in Hamburg, N.Y. is being recognized all over the country for a heartwarming act of kindness he did for a stranger.

The Town of Hamburg Police Department shared a post on Facebook about Officer Bret McCabe who responded to a call Saturday about a woman who was caught shoplifting from a store.

The woman allegedly lifted a number of items, among them were birthday gifts for one of her two children who were also present with her.

After that Officer McCabe went into the store and purchased a gift for the child who was celebrating their birthday with his own money.

The Town of Hamburg Police Department appreciated the officer, saying Officer McCabe “embodies the values of the Hamburg Police Department.”

The Facebook post went on to say, “Stories of officers’ random acts of care and compassion happen more than many know. They deserve to be told. We are proud to call Officer McCabe one of our own.”
