We never know how our small acts of kindness might change a life. God calls us to help those in need, no matter how small or insignificant they might seem. Even a tiny butterfly matters to Him.

A Broken Butterfly

Dahlia Nulman felt her heart sink when she discovered a monarch butterfly with a badly damaged wing. She watched helplessly as more pieces of the wing fell off until the butterfly couldn’t fly at all.

Most people would have accepted this as nature’s course, but Dahlia refused to give up.

“I knew I had to improvise fast,” she told The Dodo.

Creative Solution

She went to a craft store and found a feather about the same size as the butterfly’s wing. Dahlia carefully shaped the feather to match the missing wing and made it as light as possible by shaving it down.

She then attached the feather to the butterfly using non-toxic contact cement.

Learning to Fly Again

Dahlia named her new insect friend “Nemo-Bucky the bionic butterfly.” The recovery wasn’t easy. “At first, he could only go a few feet at most and then fall,” Dahlia explained.

She patiently helped Nemo-Bucky practice flying, picking him up whenever he fell. Each attempt got better until he was strong enough to try flying outdoors.

A Grateful Goodbye

During one practice session in her garden, Nemo-Bucky rested quietly for a few minutes before his big moment.

“I like to think it was like he was saying thank you,” Dahlia said. Then suddenly, he flew away out of her sight.

Unexpected Return

Dahlia wasn’t ready to say goodbye, but she had achieved her goal of helping him fly free again.

To her surprise and joy, Nemo-Bucky returned to her garden sometime later. “He was thriving and living his best butterfly life,” she observed.

God Restores the Broken

We may feel that our situation is beyond repair, but God specializes in restoration.

When we trust Him with our brokenness, He provides what we need.

God often works through the hands of others to help us fly again. Just as Dahlia didn’t give up on her butterfly friend, God never gives up on us.
